Novice Av Spaniel stake at Newtown Powys 16th November 2015
This our first year at Tregynon by kind invitation of James Shearer was an exciting trial, which provided an abundance of game, all pheasants in all bracken cover setting an even playing field for all the dogs. With the heavy rain we have experienced in the last week, the bracken was down enough to be able to view the dogs working but still hold the birds, and the rain held off with sunshine bursting through the cloud from time to time producing beautiful views and an enjoyable day. The competitors included a visitor from a new member from Sweden who ran two of his dogs. I watched the dogs with interest to see how they coped with the complicated conditions.... the trial proved to be very difficult for a lot of the novice dogs. Our guns were spot on, only shooting birds flushed by the dogs they showed great control,  and although I hope they enjoyed the day, they kept in mind that the priority was giving each young dog the best chance of success for which I commend them. The difficulty for the dogs was in retrieving a shot bird forward there were coveys of birds lifting around them from the area of the fall, and whilst quite spectacular to watch it was too much for many of the dogs, indeed open dogs might have struggled with the ground covered with fresh scent and distraction of flushing birds. Still there were dogs that survived it, and there were a few that went out with style! Our judges who kindly gave up there day for us were Roy Ellershaw and Richard Jones who called the trial over at 12.35. No run off, we made our way back to the cars for hot soup and buffet provided by our photographer Sharon Harding who never fails to support our club and is an invaluable member of the Gwynedd team providing wonderful photo reports of the day as well as refreshment!
Perhaps disappointingly albeit understandably there was no first awarded, and the rest of the results were as follows

2nd Marshwood Hattie of Cornermarsh - David Horseman
3rd Glencambus Kismet - Dave Thomson
4th Clodahill Ozil - Gavin Lockyer
COM Tyn-y-Waun Brax - Jeff McAndrew
Guns Choice  Blackheath Stanley - Jane Holmes
