Today saw the Gwynedd Spaniel Club travel over the border into Staffordshire to hold the 16 Dog Novice English Springer Spaniel Stake. The venue was Teddesley Park Estate by extreme kind permission of Teddesley Park Estate and the Guns. Steward of the beat was Mr Mike Prince. Todays Judges were Roy Ellershaw and Joe Jareno.
It was Short sleeves from the off with the sun shining down and not a cloud in the sky and a very light breeze. The trial was conducted in various types of cover be it natural or planted. Game was slow to emerge and a couple of times they decided to flush all together however that is the ups and downs of trialling and the handlers and dogs took it in their stride. So after walking around the estate for a few hours we came to the end of the card and the Judges got together to decide on a result. After about a 25 minute get together Roy Ellershaw declared TRIAL OVER and back to base we went.
The result was declared as follows:-
First place was Stuart Lewis with his ESSD SHELLSPOON COMETHEHOUR. Stuart takes the Gwynedd Shield and also the Hamers Hansel Tankard for Guns Choice.
Second place went to Kevin Woods with his ESSB SPANQUEST MEG.
There were no Third or fourth places however Certificates of Merit were awarded to David Massey with his ESSD BARCUDWEN RONALDO and to Nik Howe with his ESSD RUSHYMOOR RASTA.
Newly promoted Field Trial Secretary Dave Connell thanked everyone that had attended. He thanked the Estate owners and Gamekeeper Mike Prince, the team of Guns and finally our esteemed Judges Roy Ellershaw and Joe Jareno for giving freely of their precious time.
In summing up Joe commented how well the dogs had worked in some hard cover and had not given up their tasks. The handlers should be proud of their dogs.
A big thank you from me for allowing me to be part of your day.
Rydym yn gobeithio eich bod chi a' ch cwn wedi mwynhau'r diwrnod ac y cewch siwrnai saff adre. ( I think).
