Novice AV stake at Maer 29th Jan 2016
A great end to the season put on for us by the very capable Theo Creed We were in some fantastic woods, and game came to hand for all the dogs in an ideal way that the dogs had to hunt for, but had success of a find. we had a variety of birds, wood cock, ducks and pheasants which presented some challenging retrieves for the novice dogs and chances for them to shine. It was great to be again supported by so many of our committee, and in reflection as to why I love our club, I have to say that the defining reason for me is the thing they seem to have in common at the Gwynedd Spaniel Club is an infectious enthusiasm and passion for sporting spaniels that outweighs anything else. This enthusiasm has been the main ingredient for successful trials that have been enjoyed by everyone in attendance this season, and is why I am so pleased to be a part of it.
Our judges who kindly gave up their day to view the dogs were Mr Gary Veasey and Mr Andy Skinner and we had a full set of awards given to very worthy dogs.
We had 5 guns on this occasion, bearing in mind that the end of the season, and beaters day was the day before the trial, we wanted to ensure that anything that got up came down, and the guns did justice to the dogs, using their field craft and expertise to read the dogs and mark the birds well. Our thanks to them for chancing the day, and as it turned out they had a great day too.
We definitely felt the absence of our official photographer and lunch hostess Sharon Harding.... as you can tell by my amateur pics!! With rain, lenses steaming up and carrying a cold whilst walking what felt like a hundred country miles I am afraid I let the side down on the pics and hospitality front.... apologies for this! Hope you will be able to resume next season Sharon!
